National Intelligence Estimate Report

The National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) report on terrorism came out today. I am underwhelmed by the conclusions. A general “increased threat level” possibly tied to Al-Qaeda in Iraq. Tribal Pakistan is a haven for terrorists. The internet helps bring terrorists together. Cells are getting smaller and less centralized. All of this is news to exactly no one.

TPM Muckraker questions whether the report’s focus on Al-Qaeda in Iraq is even entirely appropriate, given that group’s relative importance. As I have posted previously, I tend to agree. Islamic terror groups continue to increase in size and scope; trying to tie AQI back to attacks in the US seems like a huge, arguably politicized stretch of the facts.
